Slumberland opened in 1967, before the term “sleep science” entered the mattress store lexicon. Ken Larson opened his first location in Richfield, MN, offering a 21-piece package with a frame, headboard, king-sized mattress, two box-springs, blanket, sheets, and pillows for $299. While most couples were sleeping on two twin mattresses, the idea that both could sleep in a full, queen, or king-size bed was novel. Sleeper sofas were a new phenomenon, as was tailoring mattress selection to body type, sleep position, and medical conditions. Minnesotans came to Slumberland to learn more about what was available on the market. Over the years, we’ve expanded the size of our Midwestern footprint and added a full line of furnishings and accessories to become a one-stop-shop for home furnishings. We’ve also sold more La-Z-Boy recliners than just about anybody else in North America. Our mattress store has never waivered from our commitment to the customer or the community.
